Cala Sisine is located along the Baunei Coast in Sardinia and belongs to the municipality of Baunei, a territory known for its spectacular landscapes and pristine nature. It is the widest beach in this enchanting stretch of coastline.

With its large open spaces and a shoreline made of sand and smooth pebbles, shaped over time by the debris carried by the Codula di Sisine stream, this beach offers a truly unique natural setting. Here, the contrast between mountains, sea and Mediterranean vegetation creates an unforgettable panorama.

Just a few steps from the beach, you will find the restaurant “Su Coile”, open from April to October, where you can enjoy traditional local dishes and a refreshing break surrounded by nature. Let yourself be captivated by the calm and beauty of Cala Sisine, where the sea meets the mountains in perfect harmony.

A 4×4 or off-road vehicle is recommended due to the unpaved road. Once at the parking area, a short and easy 30-minute hike leads you to the beach, through breathtaking scenery between cliffs and holm oak woods.

Quad excursions: for a more adventurous experience, choose a quad excursion, perfect for combining adrenaline and relaxation.
Even today, on the northern side of the beach, you can still see the remains of a small structure built by the charcoal burners, a testament to this historic activity. At the time, Cala Sisine was also known as “Portu ‘e Sisine”, a name recalling its function as a natural harbor.

Cala delle Sorgenti is made up of two twin coves separated by a rocky spur covered in dense Mediterranean vegetation. The beach features fine white sand mixed with bright white pebbles, while its crystal clear waters are fed by freshwater springs that flow directly into the sea. This creates a fascinating contrast between fresh and salt water.

Its proximity to the famous Cala Goloritzé makes it a popular destination for those seeking natural beauty and inviting waters, perfect for swimming and snorkeling. In the rocky spur that divides the two coves, you will find spectacular caves accessible only by swimming, offering a unique experience for underwater explorers.

HOW TO REACH CALA DELLE SORGENTI

If you are wondering how to reach Cala delle Sorgenti, the only way to access it is by sea. This turns the journey itself into an unforgettable experience along the Baunei Coast.

A boat tour departing from the port of Santa Maria Navarrese is the best way to visit it, allowing you to explore the coastline’s highlights along the way. By choosing Santa Maria Navarrese as your starting point, you not only support local tourism, but you also have the chance to admire iconic places such as Pedra Longa, Bàus and the waterfall (when visible), the Grotta dei Colombi and Cala Goloritzé. Continuing north for just a few minutes, you will find Cala dei Gabbiani, followed by Cala Mariolu, and further up the coast the Piscine di Venere, Cala Biriala, Cala Sisine and finally Cala Luna.

From June to September, access to the cove is regulated by buoys located about 50 meters from the shore, which means you must reach it by swimming.

For photographers and travel creators: in April, May and June, the natural light is perfect for capturing the extraordinary colors of Cala delle Sorgenti, when the coast is less busy.

What to bring: since the cove is accessible only by sea, bring everything you need for a full day at the beach, including a mask and, if possible, an underwater camera to explore the seabed and capture breathtaking shots.

Dry bag: a waterproof bag is essential to protect your smartphone, especially if you plan to swim to the beach.

Explore carefully: the caves located in the rocky spur between the two coves are a must if you enjoy exploring, but they should only be accessed by swimming and with caution.

Safety: avoid standing close to the vertical rock walls, as wild animals such as goats can dislodge stones or cause small rockfalls. Staying closer to the shoreline is safer.

Cala Biriala is located along the Baunei Coast in Sardinia and belongs to the municipality of Baunei, renowned for its spectacular landscapes and unspoiled nature. Framed by limestone cliffs and dense Mediterranean vegetation, this small cove offers a natural setting of rare beauty.

One of its most distinctive features is a natural stone arch at water level, which gives the cove a unique and unmistakable charm. Its turquoise, crystal clear waters, refreshed by underwater springs, make Cala Biriala a haven for those who love pristine seas. The beach is made up of fine sand mixed with bright white pebbles, a result of ancient landslides that shaped the coastline.

To protect this fragile environment, access to Cala Biriala is regulated, allowing a maximum of 300 visitors at a time. This system helps preserve its natural balance and safeguard the cove’s authenticity.

The name Biriala comes from the nearby Biriala Forest, located on a promontory just north of the cove. This area was once frequented by Mediterranean monk seals, and the wilderness that surrounds the cove still echoes the stories of its wild past. South of the beach lies a small inlet known locally as “Su accile de su oe marinu”, a reminder of the area’s rich natural and cultural heritage.

Venus Pools: a dreamlike cove on the Baunei Coast

The Venus Pools, located along the Baunei Coast in the municipality of Baunei, are a natural wonder that captivates every visitor. This small yet enchanting cove, about 50 meters long, is famous for its crystal clear waters that shift from turquoise to brilliant blue, making it one of the most precious gems in Sardinia.

The beach is made up of fine sand mixed with smooth white pebbles that reflect the colors of the sea, creating a magical atmosphere. Behind it, towering limestone cliffs covered with Mediterranean scrub offer a breathtaking contrast between the vibrant blue of the sea and the lush green vegetation.

Situated about one hour by boat from the port of Santa Maria Navarrese, and just a short distance from Cala Biriala and the entrance to Grotta del Fico, the Venus Pools are an unmissable stop for anyone exploring this stretch of coastline.

HOW TO GET TO THE VENUS POOLS

If you’re wondering how to reach the Venus Pools, the answer is simple: they can only be reached by sea. A boat tour departing from the port of Santa Maria Navarrese is the best way to visit them and explore the entire Baunei Coast along the way.

During the navigation you will admire iconic locations such as Pedra Longa, Bàus and the waterfall (visible in certain periods), Cala Goloritzé, Cala delle Sorgenti, Cala dei Gabbiani and Cala Mariolu. Continuing north, you will reach Cala Biriala, followed by Cala Sisine and Cala Luna.

From June to September, access to the cove is regulated by buoys placed about 100 meters from the shore for safety reasons, due to the possibility of small rockfalls from the cliff behind the beach.

USEFUL TIPS

Best time to visit: visit the Venus Pools from May to September to enjoy ideal weather and crystal clear waters. In July and August, the cove can get crowded, so consider planning your visit during quieter periods for a more peaceful experience.

Safety: avoid standing or swimming directly below the vertical cliffs, as the passage of wild animals may cause small stones or debris to fall.

What to bring: since the Venus Pools can only be reached by sea, make sure to bring everything you need for a day at the beach, including a snorkel mask and, if possible, an underwater camera to explore the seabed and capture extraordinary images.

For photographers and travel creators: plan your visit in May or early June, when tourist traffic is lower and the natural light is perfect for stunning photos and videos.
