Cala Mariolu: where it is and how to get there
Cala Mariolu is located along the Baunei Coast in Sardinia and belongs to the municipality of Baunei, renowned for its spectacular landscapes and pristine nature. A paradise of soft white pebbles, fine sand and crystal clear waters, Cala Mariolu was awarded in 2024 as the Best Beach in Europe and the second best in the world by the prestigious The World’s 50 Best Beaches.
Its original Baunese name, Ispuligedenie, means “snow fleas,” a poetic reference to the tiny white pebbles that look like small snowflakes shimmering under the sun.
Access to the beach is regulated to preserve its pristine beauty. Today, up to 700 visitors can be present at the same time, a system that helps protect its delicate natural balance.
