Cala Sisine: where it is and how to get there

Cala Sisine is located along the Baunei Coast in Sardinia and belongs to the municipality of Baunei, a territory known for its spectacular landscapes and pristine nature. It is the widest beach in this enchanting stretch of coastline.

With its large open spaces and a shoreline made of sand and smooth pebbles, shaped over time by the debris carried by the Codula di Sisine stream, this beach offers a truly unique natural setting. Here, the contrast between mountains, sea and Mediterranean vegetation creates an unforgettable panorama.

HOW TO REACH CALA SISINE

Cala Sisine can be reached both by sea and on foot, offering options for every type of traveler:

• By sea: boat tour departing from the port of Santa Maria Navarrese is the best way to visit Cala Sisine, allowing you to explore the entire Baunei Coast along the way. By choosing Santa Maria Navarrese as your departure point, you support the local community and have the opportunity to admire iconic places such as Pedra Longa, Bàus and the seasonal waterfall, Cala Goloritzé, Cala delle Sorgenti, Cala Mariolu, Piscine di Venere and Cala Birìala.
• On foot: the trail starts from “Planu ’e Murta”, reachable in about one hour by car from Baunei, crossing the Golgo Plateau. A 4×4 or off-road vehicle is recommended due to the unpaved road. Once at the parking area, a short and easy 30-minute hike leads you to the beach, through breathtaking scenery between cliffs and holm oak woods.

DID YOU KNOW?

In the past, Cala Sisine played an important role as a loading point for charcoal. The charcoal was brought down from the surrounding mountains and loaded onto ships headed to various destinations, especially Tuscany.

Even today, on the northern side of the beach, you can still see the remains of a small structure built by the charcoal burners, a testament to this historic activity. At the time, Cala Sisine was also known as “Portu ‘e Sisine”, a name recalling its function as a natural harbor.
