Cala Biriala

Cala Biriala: where it is and how to get there
Cala Biriala is located along the Baunei Coast in Sardinia and belongs to the municipality of Baunei, renowned for its spectacular landscapes and unspoiled nature. Framed by limestone cliffs and dense Mediterranean vegetation, this small cove offers a natural setting of rare beauty.
One of its most distinctive features is a natural stone arch at water level, which gives the cove a unique and unmistakable charm. Its turquoise, crystal clear waters, refreshed by underwater springs, make Cala Biriala a haven for those who love pristine seas. The beach is made up of fine sand mixed with bright white pebbles, a result of ancient landslides that shaped the coastline.
To protect this fragile environment, access to Cala Biriala is regulated, allowing a maximum of 300 visitors at a time. This system helps preserve its natural balance and safeguard the cove’s authenticity.
The name Biriala comes from the nearby Biriala Forest, located on a promontory just north of the cove. This area was once frequented by Mediterranean monk seals, and the wilderness that surrounds the cove still echoes the stories of its wild past. South of the beach lies a small inlet known locally as “Su accile de su oe marinu”, a reminder of the area’s rich natural and cultural heritage.
