Cala Luna

Cala Luna: the jewel of the Mediterranean
Cala Luna is a spectacular crescent of soft sand framed by towering limestone cliffs and famous for the impressive sea caves that give this beach its unmistakable charm. It sits on the border between the municipalities of Baunei and Dorgali and is considered one of the most iconic locations on the entire eastern coast of Sardinia.
The name “Cala Luna” originates from a linguistic transformation made in the 19th century, when Piedmontese cartographers updating the maps of the Kingdom of Sardinia altered the original Sardinian names “Elùne” (Baunei) and “Ilùne” (Dorgali) into “Luna.”
Just a few minutes’ walk from the beach, you will find the bar-restaurant “Su Neulagi,” a perfect spot for a refreshing break during your visit.
HOW TO REACH CALA LUNA
Cala Luna can be reached both by sea and by land, offering several ways to explore this unforgettable beach.

This route allows you to admire the most iconic places along the Baunei Coast, including Bàus and the seasonal waterfall (when visible), the impressive Grotta dei Colombi, Portu Pedrosu, Portu Cuau, and the entire 40-kilometre coastline all the way to Cala Luna.
- By land: Cala Luna can be reached via trekking routes starting from Cala Fuili (Dorgali) or from the Baunei hinterland. These trails offer incredible views but are recommended only for experienced hikers due to their length and difficulty.
