Historically, this beach served as an important landing point for trade: Genoese, Neapolitan, Sicilian, and Roman merchant ships once loaded local products here, including cheese, hides, grains, and wine. However, the area was not spared from raids by Saracen pirates, who caused significant damage over the centuries.
